Empowering Sustainable Education: Exfluency's Role in the GreenEdTech Initiative
The GreenEdTech project is redefining how sustainability is taught, integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into Danish classrooms through an advanced digital learning space. By equipping students with tools to tackle real-world challenges, the initiative fosters innovative problem-solving and meaningful collaboration.
At the core of this effort is Exfluency, providing secure, accessible, and generative AI‑driven solutions that ensure data privacy and empower seamless interaction across the platform.

The challenge
The GreenEdTech project aims to equip students in grades 7 to 10 with the competencies necessary for authentic problem-solving in collaboration with external partners.
This ambitious goal requires a digital learning environment that facilitates seamless communication, collaboration, and access to diverse educational resources. Ensuring data security and user privacy within this digital space is also a critical concern.
The solution
Leveraging our proficiency in AI technology, we are developing a secure, user-friendly digital learning platform tailored to the needs of GreenEdTech.
This platform incorporates generative AI and language models to enhance educational content and communication among students, teachers, and external partners.
“Our experience with AI and language technology brings significant value to this project,” explains Łukasz Kaleta, Product Development Manager at Exfluency and Product Manager on the GreenEdTech project.
GreenEdTech focuses on education, technology, citizen science, and sustainability.
Implementation
The development process has been a collaborative journey involving iterative design sprints, workshops, and continuous testing with school groups.
This approach ensures that the platform is intuitive and meets the practical needs of its users. The upcoming testing phase will involve real-world scenarios where selected schools will interact with the platform to provide valuable feedback.
“It’s not just about providing a technical tool to schools,” emphasises Flemming B. Gammelgaard, Exfluency’s COO and project leader on the GreenEdTech project. “It’s about sustainability competencies and supporting both pupils and teachers in using this digital learning space effectively, fostering critical engagement and meaningful interactions with real-world challenges.”

Exfluency sees the full architecture of the product and thinks strategically forward, not only solving the problems here and now, but also making sure future potentials in the overall strategy are enabled.
Results and impact
While the project is ongoing, preliminary feedback indicates that the platform is effectively facilitating collaboration and enhancing the learning experience.
By providing a secure and efficient digital space, Exfluency is enabling students and teachers to engage deeply with sustainability topics, fostering a generation equipped to tackle environmental challenges.
Future plans
A key ambition of the project is to expand into other EU countries, enabling schools across Europe to collaborate on sustainability challenges.
Exfluency’s expertise in multilingual communication and advanced language technology will be pivotal in this expansion. By leveraging large language models and generative AI, Exfluency ensures seamless access to resources, real-time translation, and effective cross-border collaboration. This capability will empower students and educators from diverse linguistic backgrounds to connect, share insights, and tackle global sustainability issues together.
With these efforts, GreenEdTech aims to not only transform sustainability education in Denmark but also inspire a broader movement across Europe, fostering a unified, multilingual approach to environmental challenges.
The GreenEdTech project is spearheaded by four main partners – Aalborg University, CFU Københavns Professionshøjskole, VIA University College, and Exfluency – working together to integrate sustainability into education.
Conclusion
Exfluency’s collaboration with GreenEdTech exemplifies the power of technology in driving educational innovation. By providing a secure, AI-enhanced digital platform, Exfluency is not only addressing current educational challenges but also laying the groundwork for a sustainable future.
“We are so many actors, including industry, universities, and teacher education, all committed to making this transition,” says Rikke Magnussen, the project leader from Aalborg University. This partnership underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration in achieving meaningful progress toward sustainability.
Innovation Fund Denmark has invested DKK 19 million in the project.
